Captains Log

Is there anything worse in the world than going back into work after a long holdiay weekend? I mean, yes I'm sure there are, but first world problems people!

Katie and I did not ride into work together like we usually do. She doesn't work the same place as me, but I drive by her job on the way to mine so I usually drop her off. Then I pick her up when I get off. But today she went in a little later and will be getting off a little bit later.

Seth, our son, has a 2009 Dodge Avenger with over 160k miles on it. Despite it's age and general look it has been running pretty well. Last year he had an issue with it overheating after he hit a deer. We replaced the radiator and piping but it was still over heating so he took it to a mechanic.

They determined that he had a bad temperature sensor and replaced it, and he didn't seem to have issues with it after. That is until last week, when we were in the midst of a heat wave.

He said he was struggling to make it even short trips of less than 10 miles because it kept overheating on him. He also had to run it with the heater on full blast to keep it from overheating. Of course he didn't tell me that he has been having issues until his mother tells me he needs to take it into a shop.

Normally I would suggest that we look at it and possibly see about fixing it ourselves, but with the heat I dunno, it's probably best if someone else takes a quick look. Plus it's important for him to learn what the upkeep on a car is like. Also, when it's his only vehicle we need to get it fixed because he isn't sure what the problem really is.

As a result Katie has been going into work a little later and staying a little later each day. This is so she can drop Seth off at work in the mornings and pick him up in the evenings. That means that each evening I will have about an extra 2 hours to myself.

The Fifa world cup has been going on for a minute. I'll be honest, I have not been watching it at all. I don't care for watching most sports. I like playing them, but as far as watching them it takes too much time and I just don't really get the point.

Anyway my favorite part so far has been watching international travellers reacting to America, either food, culture, stores, whatever. It makes me feel nice to see that the world and America may not be as doomed as it seems to be all the time. It seems like everyone everywhere just hates on America including by its own citizens.

Maybe my life was different than normal people, but when I was growing up my dad was in the Air Force. Patriotism was standard. Everyone was proud to be American. I know that the military has a strong propeganda system reinforcing that idea, but even still. I love this country, and I think we should all be proud of it, or at least impressed!
